Trading and the market
Trade items with other players at fixed market prices, post buy and sell ads, and know what can and can't change hands.
Players trade items directly, face to face, or through ads on the Trading channel. Trading is part of the online world.
Coins
Embervale has three coins:
- Copper and silver are the everyday money. 100,000 copper make 1 silver. Monsters drop them, quests pay them, and merchants take them.
- Gold coins are the premium currency. They are bought with real money, never dropped by monsters. A few trades and one daily commission pay them too. See Item shop and premium.
Your purse sits at the bottom of the screen and in the bag window.
The market maker sets every price
You never name a price. Every trade, offer and ad uses the price the market maker sets for that item, the same for everyone. There is no haggling, and there is no fee or tax on trades between players.
- Equipment, tools and potions trade at their shop price, in copper.
- Materials, fish, ores, ingots, crystals, skill books and treasure boxes each have a fixed price of their own.
- Upgraded gear costs more. The coin price is multiplied by the upgrade level:
| Upgrade | Price multiplier |
|---|---|
| +0 | 1 |
| +1 | 1.3 |
| +2 | 1.7 |
| +3 | 2.2 |
| +4 | 3 |
| +5 | 4 |
| +6 | 5.5 |
| +7 | 7.5 |
| +8 | 10 |
| +9 | 14 |

Trading face to face
You and the other player must stand close together, on the same map and channel.
- Open the bag (I). Players near you appear beside Trade with.
- Pick the player. For a stack, type how many to offer.
- Click the item in your bag.
- The other player sees the item and its price and presses Accept or Decline. You can Withdraw while you wait.
An offer lapses after 45 seconds. When it is accepted, the item and the coins change hands in one step: you never lose one without getting the other. You can have one offer out at a time, and you can't trade between heroes of your own account.
Trading ads
The Trading tab of the chat box carries ads, not text. It lists the ads heard from other players, each with its price.
To post your own ad:
- Press Buy to advertise an item you want (search it by name), or Sell to advertise an item from your bag.
- Set How many, then Done.
- The gear button sets how often the ad goes out (at least every 60 seconds) and for how long (up to 30 minutes).
- Press Play. Pause keeps its time, and Stop ends it. The bar fills as the ad runs.
The server checks every ad: a seller must hold the item and a buyer must be able to pay.
An ad is also a standing offer. Click the advertiser's name in an ad to find them. If they are on another map, the game offers to take you there. Once you stand next to them, press Buy (on a sell ad) or Sell (on a buy ad) with the count you want. The trade settles at once, without the advertiser having to answer. Only items at +0 trade through ads.
What can't be traded
- Quest items, Arcade Tickets and Event Coupons never trade.
- Premium items you received as a reward (rather than bought) stay with the hero they were given to: Experience Tickets, Soul Stones, Scrolls of Clarity and Revive Potions.
- Golden sandglasses can change hands only once, and only within 30 days of being made.
- Accounts under a restriction can't trade.
The Sell list only shows items in your bag that can be traded.
Trades that involve gold
Any trade whose price includes gold coins is a valuable trade. If your account has an authenticator app turned on, you must confirm it's you before you can make one: log in again with your passkey or authenticator.
Selling to merchants instead
Merchants buy anything at 35% of its shop price, plus 15% per upgrade level (see Equipment and upgrading). That is usually less than another player would pay, and materials and crystals fetch almost nothing from merchants. General traders also buy fish with Sell fish, and blacksmiths buy ingots with Sell ingots.
If you have a land parcel, citizens at your market stall pay 1.2 times an item's worth. See Lands, gardens and alchemy.
