Levels and experience

How weapon and character levels work, how much experience each level takes, and where to hunt at each level.

Your hero has two kinds of level. Knowing the difference helps you plan which job to raise and where to go.

Weapon level and character level

The plate beside your gauges shows the weapon level and job. It turns gold while that weapon is below your character level. Your character level only shows separately when the two differ.

So if you raise a Body Warrior to 20 and then pick up a bow, your character stays at 20 while the Archery Ninja starts at weapon level 1. The bow catches up without adding character levels until it passes 20.

The experience curve

Experience needed to go from level L to the next is 34 × L^1.32 + 26, rounded down. The level cap is 50. At the cap, a weapon gains no more experience.

Reaching level 50 from scratch takes 126,404 experience on one job.

Experience from monsters

Each monster kind has a base experience value at level 5. It grows by 12% for each level above that and shrinks for each level below.

Fighting at the right level

Monsters too far below or above your weapon level give less:

The sweet spot is from your own level up to ten above, as long as you can survive the harder hits of orange monsters.

Zones and level bands

Every hunting map has a level band for its monsters. To enter, your character level must reach the band's lowest level. Ahoy the Teleporter lists every map you can reach and shows the level each one needs. The Meadow of Embers is open from level 1.

Embervale and the Silt Outpost are towns with no monsters. The world pages describe each place and the bestiary lists who lives where.

Within a map, the packs spread over its band: the first packs sit at the lowest level, the last at the highest.

Open maps are shared. When one fills up, another channel opens; how many players a channel holds is still being tuned. Switch with the Ch buttons under the minimap. The status line by the minimap shows where you are: the server, the map and the channel, such as MAIN • EMBERVALE • CH. 1 (Main is the online world).

Dungeons give each party its own copy, so your party lands together. Alone, you get a copy to yourself.

Experience Tickets

An Experience Ticket gives +50% experience from every kill and quest for 30 minutes. Use it from the bag. Using another while one runs adds 30 minutes to the time left. The bonus stays at +50%. Tickets do nothing at the level cap.

Experience Tickets cost 2 gold coins in the item shop. See Item shop and premium.

The party skill Shared Wisdom adds another 10% to kills shared with your party.

Daily limits

There is no daily experience limit. The server does cap gains that go far beyond what normal play in a zone can produce, as a guard against bugs and exploits. You will not reach it by playing.

Losing experience is possible only through the death penalty. See Combat and skills.
